The rugged, boulder strewn cliffs of Granite Mountain Wilderness provide a scenic setting for this campground at an elevation of 5,600 feet among ponderosa pines. From here it is a short walk to the shore of Granite Basin Lake.
Granite Basin Lake is man-made and about 5 surface acres. It is not stocked with fish. Although fishing is usually rated as only fair to poor, the patient angler can often catch bluegill, largemouth bass, or catfish. A State of Arizona fishing license is required for anglers over the age of 13 years. Boats with electric motors only are allowed on the lake and swimming is not permitted. Campsites are generally large enough to accommodate parking for most recreational vehicles and camping trailers not exceeding 40 feet in length. There is a $10 a night fee for each site. This campground does not have any Recreational Vehicle hookups, dumpstations or shower facilities. The campground is open year-long.
Access: From Prescott it is 8.4 miles to the campground. Take Gurley Street west to Grove Avenue. Turn north on Grove Avenue and proceed to the 4th traffic light. Stay in the left lane through this intersection and take Iron Springs Road. Follow Iron Springs Road for 3.2 miles to the turnoff to Granite Basin Lake (Forest Road 374). Turn north on FR 374 and follow for about 4 miles to the campground/picnic area entrance.
